10 Items for Surviving a Family Vacation

Today I have a humor column in The Calgary Herald entitled, 10 Items for Family Vacation Survival. These are the pictures that ran in the print version.

Christmas 2004: William and Vivian (age 7 mos) experience snow and -20 for the first time (they were born in Thailand). Note their impressions of the letter T.
Vivian, secured to Everest's rockface at 35,000 feet

When traveling in Italy, we brought Carabiners as countermeasures againt theft.

In train stations and public places we always secured the bags (big and small) together making it more difficult for a gypsy to grab one and get away.

My mom (mother of 9) packed several items while traveling, but one item I will never forget, an item especially fit for cold weather, was Wonder bread bags. They were perfect for waterproofing poor kid snow boots and doubled as holders of soiled underoos.

    Two words: Xanax.
Sorry, must have taken some, it’s only one word!
So you can sleep when the kids can’t!

It’s been a pleasure get virtually acquainted with you.
Happy Christmas and Boxing Day, Leanne!

What about snacks? It has to be the “good” ones, the stuff they’re not allowed to eat at home…

Sobeys bags are another handy thing to carry…instant barf bag or you can wear them on your head during a sudden downpour!

    Have a wonderful holiday, Leanne!

I’ve seen people change their kids on those tray-tables in airplanes. So, yeah, wet-wipes. I also bring gloves (so I dont touch anything) and a hat.

    So I don’t catch lice!

    I’m not kidding.

“Hood up!” is what I tell Tech Support. 😉

    Great article!
“The mathematical formula that determines how many undergarments your children need is double whatever you pack.”
…ain’t that the truth? Loved the pic of your little ones in the snow. Reminds me of when mine were that big, trying to zip them in those stupid…er…necessary snowsuits…and then trying to get them in the car. Oh no, having flashbacks…must go lay down.

Thanks to my blog, friends and family alike now know I couldn’t survive most things without my monogrammed flask (a gift from someone who really gets me).
