I’m combining two of my passions.
Not sipping tea and chugging wine.
Humour and writing.
And I’m going to share everything I know.

I’m teaching a ninety-minute webinar with WANA International, entitled How To Write Funny (Er): 10 Humor Techniques for Writers of Fiction and Nonfiction.
Date: Wednesday, April 24
Time: 8:30-10:00 PM EDT (Have fun doing Time Zone Math…)
Cost: $45 for normal people, but since you read my blog you can enter the discount code “Leanne10” and receive the course for $35.
Click here to read more about the class and/or to register.
6 Reasons Why You Should Take “How To Be Funny (Er)” webinar:
- To make your fiction (and nonfiction, including blog posts) more marketable. Humor can improve all writing, including serious, heavy themes (one of the examples of humor I’m going to share is from The Boy in the Striped Pajamas)
- To figure out how to make your Twitter and Facebook updates original, engaging, and laugh-out-loud funny. Although I’m primarily discussing full-length works, I’ll use many examples from Twitter to demonstrate the structure of a joke.
- Because you will learn 10 actual strategies you can start using in your writing that very day.
- To laugh. We will take apart short humor examples from picture books, young adult, popular and literary fiction, and nonfiction. They will be funny. You will laugh.
- Because you want to see my hair stick up. Yes, my webcam will be on. This also means I’m due to have an acne breakout that day.
- To enter to win a copy of my book, DON’T LICK THE MINIVAN: And Other Things I Never Thought I’d Say to my Kids.
If you want an even bigger discount on the webinar, sign up for my newsletter by clicking here: SUBSCRIBE TO IRONIC MOM NEWSLETTER. I’ll be sending out an even bigger discount code in a couple of days. Plus, I have some good news I’m going to send out to newsletter subscribers first. Just to be annoying. So even if you aren’t going to take the webinar, sign up for the newsletter. But you should take the webinar too.
Finally, leave a comment. About anything. Like what you’re reading…or what you’re not reading. One lucky commenter will win a 66.7% discount off the cost of the webinar.
Count me in. Why? Because I’ve decided to start taking this funny business seriously
I might see if I can do this. I love humor writing and would love to learn as much as I can. Also, while I would feel bad if I won another giveaway from you, it doesn’t hurt to try. 😉
I will keep my fingers crossed that your acne decides to delay its appearance. Isn’t that just always the case? 😛
I want to participate, but I have to work that morning. Are you going to have it available to watch after that time? I’d register if we could have later access!
Yes, you could livestream it for up to 3 mos after… (it’s scheduled in the PM though…)
Haha! Clearly I need to take a class on reading time. (And I’m a notorious skimmer.) Okay – 8:30 in the night time, Eastern Time. I guess that makes more sense, considering you’re a teacher. Yay, I’m in!
Any idea how soon the DVD version of you Webinar will be out? Or the made-for-TV version? I would like to know more about the later Live Streams. This month is pretty full right now. I really would love to do this sometime.
Shirtsleeves: I’m not funny. You know this. It’s like there is a pole up my butt or something. Is the removal of this pole included in the cost of your class? I’m so in.
But for real, can you tell me the time difference. That’s math.
Right now – I’m reading this blog post! How’s that for humor? It’s funny because it’s true! 😉
You’re funny, me not so much. I NEED help. Joined and will be there with bells on.
I think I’m funny but maybe no one else does??? Hmmm… Now you’ve got me thinking!
Yep. Me too. I almost licked my minivan the other day before I realized it wasn’t mine. That would’ve been embarrassing. My kids deserved it, but…
Bwahaha.
I’m still in the hesitant stage as to whether or not I should take the webinar. I guess my question is do I need to be funny?
No, you don’t need to be funny. I’ll be showing you how to add humor to anything. 🙂
Very cool!
But I feel like you might jip me on seeing your hair stick up and wear a hat.
Not a chance. I only do that on Skype dates…
I am intrigued, but it begs the question . . . can you really TEACH someone how to be funny? Isn’t that something that needs to be inherent? Just pondering . . .
You can teach someone to be funnier, that’s for sure (just like you can teach someone to write). 🙂
Bummed! That’s my honey’s birthday, so we have plans; hope you teach the class again! I’d love to take this one!
It’s nice to meet you. I think I’ll enjoy your blog and I’m looking forward to reading more. Yeah, I know that sounds like a spammer intro. Thankfully there are people like you to help more writers be humorous. The world needs more humor everywhere.
I’m a little worried my kids will overhear… They’re plenty funny already! I’ll be considering course 🙂
