In 12 hours, I will be on a plane heading to Chicago. I’m off to my first Blog Her, one of the biggest blogging conferences in the world. Heck, I’m even speaking at it (and by “speaking” I don’t mean only to the person in front of me in the bathroom lineup). There are going to be 6000 people at this conference, 90% of whom are women. I’m rooming with four of them, none of whom I’ve met.
I don’t exactly prepare far in advance for conferences (or anything, really, including childrearing and marriage).
Given that, here are 10 Ways Not To Get Ready for BlogHer:
1. Randomly throw clothes into a suitcase.
2. Close the suitcase and pray the clothes match.
3. Get a migraine and a vertigo virus the Sunday before. Go to ER by ambulance.
4. Finish your presentation notes the day before.
5. Forget to tell people that you’re presenting.
6. Forget to apply to be invited to the parties.
7. Spend more time cross-referencing three weather apps for the Windy City than you spent cooking dinner for the past week.
8. Have no idea where you’re staying the final night.
9. Realize that everyone you know is already in Chicago by the time you write this post.
10. TBA (this point will no doubt write itself during the trip).
How do you prepare for trips away?
I have only been blogging for 8 months. Please, please, please make sure you give us a synopsis of the BEST of what you learned in this blogging conference.
From what I’ve seen from your site there is no one better to represent us bloggers….. How do I prepare for a important trip… I start a major home improvement job the day before I’m about to leave…. Wait that’s why one of my ex’s left me…
Something about a passport?
Yep. That sounds like the beginning of every trip I go on.
I think that’s my favourite picture, ever.
That’s a WOW, Leanne! Hope you have a wonderful time! Your speech will be great! Love the pic of you getting your hair done!
You will be amazing – I’m sorry I won’t be there to hear you speak! How do I prepare for a trip? Eat a big dinner, drink a large glass of wine, decide to MOVE OFFICES THE DAY BEFORE, and catch up on reading my favorite blogs. How else would one get ready to leave on a trip? ๐
I wish SO BADLY I could drive back home to see you!!! If only BlogHer had been 2 weekends ago when I was back for my family reunion. One of these days…
Have fun…I can’t wait to hear about #10!
Sounds fun! Let us know if you hear any good blogging tips!
I like to think I’m organized and yet still stay up most of the night before a trip packing “just a couple of things that couldn’t be packed earlier”. Right. Have a great time!
When are you speaking? Would love to catch it. Hoping we get to meet in person…amidst the 6,000 and all that.
P.S. My airport limo is picking me up in 5 hours and instead of packing I’m on the GD computer!
I’m running the Writing Lab on Humor. Fri 2:30-4:00 and Sat 10:30-12:00. Happy travels! Hope to see you there!
Wait. We have to apply to be invited to parties? I’m doomed. But I’m glad to know ahead of time. And I get to see you speak – hooray!
The private ones…I think. I don’t even know. I’m hopeless! Hope to meet up!
Yes! I should probably get off the Internet and pack. Save travels!
I make list of things to pack and things to do and things to remember and things to hide and things to tell people and things and things and then I make a list of all my lists….phew, your way sounds much less stressful.
Have a great time…I wish I was going, I would have LOVED to see you speak! Can someone stream it for those of us not going???
Well at least your hair will be awesome…right? Have fun!!!
I can’t wait to hear all about it – and see some more awesome pics!!
I didn’t ever hear about. I guess I should have read some of your earlier blogs. I’m so behind!
Have a safe trip and a really, really great time.
Reblogged this on quirkywritingcorner and commented:
Quite a unique list!!
Have a great time! My hairdresser always makes me take off my glasses and I’m blind!
I am on the edge of my seat waiting for #10. Congrats to you, what a cool opportunity! I shave (you know, everywhere that needs maintenance) and clip nails before any trip. Just in case. Took my Mother’s clean undies advice one step further, I guess. Happy travels!
Good luck, Leanne! You’ll do great – and I hope you’re feeling better!
If anyone asks, two different colored socks are all the rage now.
Have loads of fun!
The clothes will match, the wit will prevail, and you will have a great time!
Ooooooo…I went last year and met some cool peeps. Have fun!
That last one is so true! Hope you have a great time.
Still sounds amazing! Tell us all about the conference and have a blast!
P.S. Your book cover is your i-phone case?! Soooo jelly!
You will do exceptionally fine.
I bet #10 will supply enough material for several blog posts. Have fun!
Leanne! It was great meeting you at the Canadian party. Hope you had a great trip. Look forward to reading about it ๐
Awesome and Holy Crap on the ER part! I loved meeting you and taking your class! It was so incredibly good! You’re such a neat person. Thank you for sharing your humor wisdom!
I love this! Getting ready for back to back travel weeks coming up & for someone who rarely travels, this may be a problem! Definitely time to try out a couple (dozen) new recipes & launch a new blog!
Who has time to go away?
I serve travelers, Leanne, I’m never one of them!
