The Oscars, Twitter, and a Boring Week

The Oscars are on—and even though I haven’t seen a movie in the theatres since Top Gun—I’m watching, I’m reminding myself how much I despise it when people break out in song, and I’m reminiscing about two years ago, when my sister and I were in Hollywood for the weekend and attended Oprah’s After-Oscar Show.

So, instead of a witty post about something my kids have done (Good Lord, where are they right now?), I’m cutting and pasting.

Here is my week in review, according to Twitter.

Maybe this week will be more exciting…

Now back to dreaming about Colin Firth and wondering if my love of facial hair applies to George Clooney.

Did you watch the Oscars?
What did you do last week?

I could give two hoots about pretentious people who make gobs of money in a secret society that gives awards to eachother. We, the people, should be getting the awards. We’re the ones that go to the movies and buy the $10-$15 per person tickets that support their lavish vacations. I haven’t been to a movie theater either in ages. The theater doesn’t supply barf bags. It makes me sick the amount of money these celeb make.

    Leanne,

Male facial hair is an issue these days. I dislike it intensely. This ridiculous, “I haven’t shaved for four days,” look, which George Michael started has spawned millions of devotees.

At one point, there was a razor that would give you that look, and it cost $800, before the fiscal bubble imploded. Fashion is just complete rowlocks, where idiots follow what the other idiots are doing. How, for instance, is it MORE expensive to buy a T-shirt with advertising on it, than a plain one? Madness, and the world has gone to hell in a handcart.

I blame it all on yoof.

Kitchens are dangerous places. You are wise to be cautious with children.

I find it very strange that you live in one of the most underpopulated places in the world, and choose to live close to neighbours…suburbia. Hmmmm, I’ve never been to Alberta/Calgary, perhaps it is a teeming Metropolis clogged with folks.

I do like neatly trimmed facial hair.

      On men at least.

Sadly, they were broadcasted while I was sleeping. Another disappointing fact about living where I live 😛

Hey, 777 people like you on facebook. 777 is the code you have to dial on the remote in my country to get subtitles for some shows like soaps or tv serie. Another unuseful tip!

Moronic mom was so funny. Especially the tagline wordplay. Nicely done 🙂 I am now going over to read about how you ended up at Oprah’s after party! 🙂 Have a good week ahead!

Letting her make the grilled cheese by herself qualifies you as Mom of the Year. Unless she caught herself on fire. As long as she’s not doing that, you can graduate to putting her in charge of making dinner one night a week, provided she’s making grilled cheese and soup. And not catching anything on fire.

Must teach her the baking soda trick to put out stovetop fires. I used it many a time as a teen…

You never want to know what I REALLY think. Didn’t watch the Oscars. Granted there was a prurient interest in which starlet showed the most. Learned to make grilled cheese about nine. Learned that a cast iron skillet handle that has spent time over an open flame can be HOT!!!! Toodles.

Funny little tidbit. When first dating, hubby and I were watching America’s Most Wanted or some such show where a lady was saved from a hostage situation because she and her hubby had an inconspicuous code word to use on the phone if something was dangerously wrong. So. My husband the worry wart insisted we adopt that trick. But what pray tell would not illicit suspicion in a grumpy/scary people stealer? “Goodbye” is what we came up with. And “Toodleoo” is the farewell we use for every uneventful phone call of our lives.

It’s great. He gets made fun of everytime he takes a call from me I’m front of any human being over the age of 9, and he gets made fun of anytime I take his call and explain to all my fellow backwoods Nova Scotian friends this plan concocted by my city boy of a husband!

Went off on a tangent there, didn’t I?

How’d the grilled cheese turn out, anyway?

          Swimminhill,

Your Husband is a smart man who cares.

You are smart together to arrange and remember something like that.

It’s a bit like a grab bag to go, being always ready. You always think you’ll never need it, but you replace the water every week and check the date on the protein bars every month. JIC.

You *never* know, until its time, till that sort of stuff is required.

No one should live their lives paranoid, but avoiding swimming with crocs is smart thinking.

          Well done.
